Speeding Police Officer Caused Pedestrian Injuries

A New York woman is now suing a town in New Jersey as a result of injuries sustained when a police cruiser going at a minimum of 80 mph hit her on a spring night. The woman alleges that she was walking near Route 35 at 1 o’clock in the morning in 2016 when she made plans to cross the road near President Avenue. After looking down the street to verify there was no traffic, she and a friend began to cross.

Injuries Sustained in Serious Police Accident

The driver of this police cruiser named in this lawsuit was allegedly driving 100 mph in pursuit of someone else who was speeding. When the two pedestrians stepped into the road, they were not aware of the oncoming vehicle, which ultimately struck the plaintiff in the lawsuit. Both of the women were injured.

The woman alleges that her leg was ripped open to the bone after being struck by the cruiser and that her nose was smashed. The police officer claims that his headlights were on but his emergency lights and sirens were off. The plaintiff’s lawsuit, however, claims that the police cruiser did not have headlights, sirens or emergency lights on and that several street lights in the area were also burned out, making it impossible for him to see her.
